Positive Safeguarding Practice

National Safeguarding Week: 10th to 14th November 2025

Positive safeguarding practice is the theme of a wide-ranging programme of events taking place across Mid and West Wales for National Safeguarding Week, commencing 10th November 2025. The programme has been coordinated by CWMPAS and CYSUR, the Regional Safeguarding Board, and this year's theme has been designed in response to some of the safeguarding themes and issues that have emerged across the region in the last year.

A highlight of the week includes a conference for multi-agency practitioners, taking place at Yr Egin, Carmarthen. This will include presentations and workshops from keynote speakers and will include a presentation on the outcome and findings of the review undertaken on the events that took place in Southport in July 2024, information on the Most Significant Change model of practice, vulnerability in neurodiversity, and using AI to support information sharing, alongside input from service users and those with lived experience.

During the week, we will also host a variety of events and webinars that will seek to raise awareness and highlight issues that affect children and adults at risk. This includes a webinar revisiting key elements of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and how these should be applied in safeguarding practice in a variety of situations, contexts and scenarios. In addition, we will also be hosting a webinar sharing the findings from the 2025 thematic review of adult practice reviews in Wales. We will also be hosting a webinar which highlights a free service for safeguarding vulnerable people with dementia, who are at heightened risk of going missing (the Herbert Protocol). Alongside these events will be input from third sector and independent groups with events from New Pathways, Lucy Faithfull Foundation Wales, NSPCC Cymru and Llanelli Mind.
